So then, I believe it is time for me to talk about an event I went to last weekend in London, at Earls Court to be precise. It was called Collectormania and was not wholly devoted to Doctor Who, all manner of different films and tv shows was represented there, in form of both talks, photo shoots with celebrities, autograph signings and dealer stands.
Now obviously I could go on and on about what went on there that didn't have anything to do with Doctor Who, but that's not what this blog is about. This is a blog about Doctor Who, not about Star Wars or Star Trek, so Doctor Who is what you're gonna read about.
Now then there were all manner of different Doctor Who guests you could have your photo with, from both the Classic series and the New series. Possibly one of the highlights for me was going to get my photo with Anneke Wills who played the 1st and 2nd Doctor companion Polly, I'd previously met her at Regenerations in Swansea a few weeks previously. Now as soon as she caught sight of me as I walked into the photo booth she immediately recognized me and asked me if I had enjoyed Regenerations and how I was. Another highlight for me was meeting Eve Myles, who plays Gwen Cooper in Torchwood, and her agreeing to wear my Stetson for the photo.
Now I love my stetson and it is my aim to get as many people as possible who have been in Doctor Who to wear it, so far I can say that Sylvestor McCoy, a Peter Crushing Dalek, an Imperial Dalek, Caroline Berry, Eve Myles, Paul McGann and Arthur Darvill have all worn my hat, this means that two of the people who have played the Doctor have worn it and, if all goes to plan, by the end of the year a further two will have as well. Anyway back onto topic.
Both Evanna Lynch and Caitlen Blackwood were both lovely to meet as well, specially Caitlen. Then of course there was Kate O'Mara who played the Rani in the classic series and Georgia Moffet. It really was an overload of celebrities that weekend. But of course I am missing two people out.
One of the two final people who I met at Collectormania was Arthur Darvill, who plays Rory Williams, now not only did I get to meet him and get him to sign something for me but when I asked for another picture with him, which he agreed to, he also agreed to a hat swop! I couldn't believe my luck that I was able to wear his hat as well.
And finally, I got to meet the tenth Doctor himself! David Tennant! I was so looking forward to this one and I was so nervous even if I didn't appear to be. I had nothing to worry about of course and he was a lovely man to meet, granted they were charging way to much for autographs but it was worth it. Not only did I get him to sign a special collectors issue of Doctor Who Magazine but also he signed one of my own drawings of the TARDIS, that ladies, gentlemen and anything in between, is a one of a kind!
Now then, I'm going to leave the celebrities behind in this part of the blog to talk about something else; cosplaying. Yes that's right children we are back to what I mentioned in yesterdays post. Now I'm sure you can imagine the amount of cosplaying that occurs at events like Collectormania, so suffice for me to say that it was amazing to see the work that had gone into some people's costumes, not just Doctor Who. I saw a Darth Vader, numerous Clone and Storm Troopers, an Alien from Alien. I could go on. In the Doctor Who department we had numerous Amy Ponds and 11th Doctor, myself included, and quite a few 10th Doctor's as well. We also had a 9th, 4th, 8th and two 5th Doctors which was wonderful to see. There were Weeping Angels, Silence, the Master, a Cyberman and a Cheetah person. It was also great to see some people I'd made friends with at Regenerations and I made a lot of new friends as well, including someone who is actually from Nottingham like me, that was a great surprise!
Overall I had a fantastic time and I now cannot wait from my other two conventions where I will get to meet people who I have admired for years and get to see my friends who think the same as I do.
